Using intimate interviews, archival footage, and visuals that reflect his cinematic style, the documentary acknowledges Prelorán’s legacy while examining his humanistic approach in his work. Prelorán, as a documentarian and the one who gave voice to the marginalized, blurred the boundaries with the people he documented, forging relationships that lasted many years.

A Life Behind the Camera

During his career, Jorge Prelorán produced fifty documentary films, primarily based in rural and Indigenous communities in Latin America. His most famous film, Hermógenes Cayo (1969), is a staple in Latin American cinema, combining ethnography with personal storytelling as a work of art.

Our documentary charts Jorge’s journey from a budding filmmaker in Buenos Aires to studying film in LA and worldwide. We also reveal the philosophies, friendships, and filmmaking approaches that influenced his art.

Production Overview

To honor Prelorán’s story with the depth and respect it deserves, SN Media Services did multi-location shoots in:

  • Argentina – Interviewed family members in Jujuy and Buenos Aires, and with cultural scholars
  • California – Interviewed UCLA faculty, archivists, and collaborators
  • New York – Archival research and post-production

We were even able to conduct interviews with colleagues, students, family members, and cultural historians who knew Prelorán or were inspired by his work. We worked closely with the archives that keep his original films and magazines/journals.

Our Approach

SN Media Services, a production company based in documentary films, conceived this project as a tribute rather than just a film. Our intention in every shot was to preserve the emotional shade and cultural integrity of the experiences Prelorán fought for.

Our work portrays not only the way the Bomboloni is made but also the feeling of pleasure and indulgence in every bite.
